providence youth student movement

PrYSM organizes at the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation by centering youth, female, queer, and people of color leadership in our campaigns, our organization, and our communities.

  • Designed to strengthen leadership, communication, and community organizing skills, OC’s number one priority is making sure we create well-rounded youth leaders, both inside and outside of the PrYSM space.

  • (CDP) empowers Southeast Asian youth and youth of color to know: their rights when interacting with law enforcement, what actions to take when their rights are violated, and how to educate their communities on their rights. CDP supports all community members with no to low cost legal resources, such legal representation in cases of police misconduct, post-conviction relief for SEAs with deportation orders, and referrals to immigration attorneys.

  • RICE- Rhode Island Civic Engagement/ Deportation Defense - RICE connects community members to resources needed, especially those with deportation orders. RICE worked with CDP to hold legal clinics with criminal defense and immigration attorneys.

Civic Engagement is a tool PrYSM uses to raise awareness about SEA deportations, while connecting those directly impacted to a larger deportation defense movement in New England and across the country. RICE supports all community members with no to low cost legal resources, such legal representation in post-conviction relief for SEAs with deportation orders, and referrals to immigration/ criminal defense attorneys.

  • QTR is a PrYSM program designed for queer and trans people of color.

Addressing issues including housing, social network and safety within the community, QTR also holds on site programming such as QT Thursdays; a space for queer and trans youth of color (24 and under) to challenge mainstream LGBTQ narratives, support each other, and just hang out. We have a drop-in space with food, video games and board games every other week, and planning meetings and educational workshops during the weeks in between.
